Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Monday 17.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Large naturally released avalanches could occur. Strong wind will form unstable wind slabs and could overload the persistent weak layers. Very conservative terrain choice is recommended.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 16. January 2022

Mountain weather

Sunday 16. January 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l Sunday night. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northeast during the evening. -11 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 17. January 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -12 °C to -8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
